An Update on Beta Pi’s Standing

2017 Annual Meeting RecapPrior to Founders Day festivities, the annual meeting of Beta Pi Alumni Association took place at the Inn at Penn. In attendance were the following distinguished alumni:  AA President Ross Weiner ’80, AA Treasurer Joel Catania ’71, AA Secretary Morty Cohen ’65, Paul Zaentz ’69, Steve Leventhal ’67, Rich Myers ’69, Fred Bailey ’70, Rich Sussman ’69, Mark Perna ’68, Rich Kopelman ’62, and Dan Darkes ’68. SMC Nico DeLuna ’15 represented the undergraduate members of the Beta Pi.

Nico discussed several important matters that have affected the fraternity. As to matters that the undergraduate members of Beta Pi can address, the fraternity is in good shape. There are presently eight juniors, 21 sophomores, and 14 freshmen who will constitute membership when September classes begin. Beta Pi is not on probation and maintains an amicable relationship with Penn. The chapter is striving to re-establish what was once an excellent relationship with Penn.

Recent problems with the fire detectors in the Chapter House were discussed. Nico advised that there are daily checks and reminders to the undergraduates that smoking is not permitted in the house as the Chapter House is part of the University dormitory system.

The Beta Pi Advisory Board has been reconstituted under the leadership of John Strong, a Pike alumnus from the Lehigh University chapter, and Charlie Heinz, a recent Penn graduate.

Rich Myers reports that Penn is presently holding approximately $70,000 in a Beta Pi capital improvement fund. The Chapter House is in good shape and there are no pressing needs for repairs and improvements. Also discussed was the Beta Pi Endowment Fund that is administered by Pi Kappa International.

The meeting was then adjourned to prepare for the Founders Day Dinner. The Alumni Association wants to remind all active and alumni members of Beta Pi that the annual meeting is open to everyone. We hope to see more of you in attendance next year!
