Following the screening of Paul Zaentz’s (Beta Pi ’69) film, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, at the Cannes Film Festival, other film festivals want to join in the 50th Anniversary celebration of the film that won an Oscar at the Academy Awards as Best Picture.
As reported in the December 2024 issue of Slices of Beta Pi, Paul became the owner of this film when his company, Teatro della Pace Films, purchased at auction, this film and all other films that were part of Paul’s uncle’s company, Saul Zaentz Company.
After the Cannes presentation, another screening took place in Los Angeles, California, at the 980 seat Geffen Theatre inside the Museum of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This screening was the first showing in the Western Hemisphere of the restoration of director Milos Forman’s film and a celebration of the original release of the film in 1975. Prior to the showing, Paul was given the opportunity to introduce the film. His inimitable introduction was received to great acclaim.
On June 23, 2025, as part of the Il Cinema Ritrovato film festival in Bologna, Italy, the outdoor screening in the Piazza Maggiore was attended by approximately 6000 people. Paul’s introduction of the film at this gathering received multiple ovations during his speech and culminated with a three-minute ovation at the finish.
Paul’s next introduction and subsequent screening of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest was scheduled for July 5, 2025, at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in Milos Forman’s home country, the Czech Republic. Future screenings, all with Paul Zaentz inspired introductions, are scheduled for the Russian capital Moscow, Lyon in France, and the Mar Del Plata Festival in Argentina.
