PUBLIC SERVICE

The brothers of Pi Kappa Alpha have a have a long and distinguished history of charitable fund-raising and public service to the community and the University of Pennsylvania.

As reported in the March 9, 1982, issue of The Daily Pennsylvanian, Pi Kappa Alpha played a leading role in the Kite and Key Student Telethon for the benefit of the University of Pennsylvania. The Kite and Key Society held an annual telethon as part of the University of Pennsylvania Annual Giving program. Any funds generated by the telethon are not restricted. Penn applies these funds to the areas the Penn administration feels are warranted.

The Kite and Key Telethon for 1982 was able to raise $75,342 from 2001 donors. In a full-page acknowledgement in The Daily Pennsylvanian, Penn thanks the Kite and Key Society for procuring what was then a record amount of money. Eight fraternities and 11 other campus organizations were listed as participants in the telethon. It was noted that Pi Kappa Alpha gathered the most dollars for the telethon on the fraternity side. Daniel Geller, Beta Pi ’82, was the individual from the fraternities who obtained the largest total contributions.

Our thanks to Daniel and the entire Beta Pi team for their performance and zeal to benefit “dear old Penn.”
